Functional Touch Panel Performance Test

One of our most recent integrations for a major OEM, was to replicate human touch actuation for each panel function. The Fanuc SCARA robot was the perfect tool for this application.

Each press required the system to mimic the touch of a human finger in order to activate the capacitive switch. This was done by attaching an industrial “stylus” to the Fanuc sensor head. Serial communication was used to verify that the device recognized that each press occurred at the correct location. In this case, a simple press was all that was required. Taps, swipes, zooms and other gestures can also be added for custom configurations and future applications.

Simultaneously, the testing of the LED response was incorporated with the Feasa LED sensor which was also located on the Fanuc sensor head.

In this application, IQ was able to provide:

  • Serial communication verification
  • Simultaneous Feasa LED response test
  • Pass / fail acknowledgement
  • Effortless operator snap-in DUT exchange
  • Fingertip controls
  • Accurate Data Logging Software

For future applications, this robotic automation can be customized to virtually any controller chip.
